SAN JUAN COUNTY, Utah ( ABC4 ) — A retired sheriff’s deputy in San Juan County was arrested on Sunday for behavior that officials said was traced back “at least two decades,” according to a press release from the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office .

Grayson W. Redd, 74, was taken into custody after the sheriff’s office executed an arrest warrant on Sunday. He is a retired sheriff’s deputy for the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, according to the press release.

“The arrest is the continuation of an ongoing investigation into recently disclosed criminal behavior going back at least two decades,” the release said. “These criminal allegations include Rape of a Child and Forcible Sex Abuse of both children and minors.”

Because of Redd’s position within the community — and because of the “prolonged duration of the charged behavior” — victims of Redd were encouraged to reach out to the San Juan County Attorney Victim Advocate.

Victims may email kjensen@sanjuancounty.org or call the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office at 435-587-2237 to be connected with resources.

“Even crime victims who are unable or uninterested in pursuing criminal charges against Mr. Redd may qualify for resources from the State of Utah’s Office for Victims of Crime,” the sheriff’s office said.

Officials did not immediately release further details about the circumstances surrounding the arrest of Redd, and the sheriff’s office said no other information would be released because the investigation is ongoing.

“The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office and County Attorney are dedicated to enforcing the laws, especially in the protection of society’s most vulnerable, against all perpetrators, regardless of employment or social status,” the release said.

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
