2014 Tour Championship winner Billy Horschel's best finish at a major prior to this week's Open Championship was a T4 at the 2013 U.S. Open.

Horschel, who at one point early on Sunday held a one-stroke lead over the field at Royal Troon, couldn't seal the deal to capture his first major, however, ended the 152nd Open Championship in a tie for second place - the best major championship finish of his career.

As he seeks to carry the momentum from The Open to the upcoming 3M Open, Horschel also seems to be aware of some of the recent chatter surrounding his name on social media.

Earlier on Sunday following the final round of The Open, fans were surprised to see Horschel going back and forth with a critical golf account on X.

Horschel (-6 overall) entered the final round of The Open with a one-shot lead and while he shot a solid 3-under-par 68 on Sunday, it wasn't enough to match the 9-under final score Xander Schauffele took into the clubhouse.

“I'm disappointed. I should feel disappointed; I had a chance to win a major,” Horschel said, via Morning Read's Alex Miceli . “I was in a really good position. I just didn't play -- I just made a few too many mistakes today when I didn't need to.”

Having somewhat quietly posted two top-ten finishes at majors in 2024 (T8 at PGA), Horschel's game is trending up ahead of the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
