The Greenville Vet Center Mobile Unit visited Bertie County recently.

They came as an outreach effort to provide to communities of veterans, professional confidential counseling and referral support to eligible Veterans and service members. These included National Guard and Reserve components and their families in a non-medical setting.

The Veterans Outreach Program Specialist, Gary Brown, said, “I am glad to come back to the Bertie area.”

He stressed that the Vet Centers offer not only counseling, but also individual group, marriage and family counseling, and in connection to other VA or community benefits and services through outreach activities.

“All hands on deck with our local providers allowed for a successful event for all veterans, spouses and family members within the county and surrounding areas,” Brown said.

The vendors included: Positive Step Health, Cardinal Hospice Care Caption Call, Bertie County Rural Health Home Health Agency and Bertie County Council on Aging.

These agencies linked veterans with free screenings of health care programs for seniors, free clothing and home health care programs.

Food and refreshments were on site from Jaylen’s Food Truck.

Due to the outpouring of participation, Bertie County Veterans Services Director Denise Clark looks forward to Brown coming back to Bertie County soon.
