A teen from Endicott and a Horseheads man have been identified as the drivers in a deadly collision Friday on Interstate 86 in southeastern Chemung County.
Three people were killed shortly before 5 p.m. Friday when two vehicles collided head-on in the eastbound lane near the Lowman exit in the Town of Chemung, according to New York State Police at Horseheads.
State police identified the drivers as 18-year-old Colin J. Ferrell, of Endicott, and Steven A. Mallory, 36, of Horseheads. The third victim was identified as Ferrell's mother, 44-year-old Tiffany Ferrell.
According to the preliminary investigation, a 2018 Nissan Maxima driven by Mallory was traveling west on I-86 when it crossed over the median and struck Ferrell's 2015 Accura RDX, which was eastbound.
All three victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Colin and Tiffany Ferrell were returning home from his college orientation at the time, according to a GoFundMe account set up for the family, which has already exceeded its $100,000 goal.
Colin Ferrell was a 2024 graduate of Union-Endicott High School and his mother was an active school volunteer, according to district Superintendent Nicole Wolfe and high school Principal Steven DiStefano, who issued a joint statement about the tragedy.
"Colin was a kind and compassionate student who loved playing baseball, and Tiffany was a dedicated volunteer for the district, involved in many school and community-related endeavors," the statement said.
The school district will offer counseling services from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Thursday at the high school, either in person or by phone at 607-757-2181.

A GoFundMe page was also set up for Mallory with a $25,000 goal. The account indicated Mallory has a 7-year-old son and recently lost his mother. Mallory was a parts specialist at Advance Auto Parts, according to his Facebook page .
The investigation into the crash is continuing, according to state police, who were assisted at the scene by Chemung County Sheriff's Office, New York State Department of Transportation, Chemung Fire Department, Greater Valley Emergency Medical Services, and Wellsburg Fire Department.
