Gilbert Arenas has once again come under fire for a weirdly xenophobic rant against the South Sudan basketball team after they almost beat Team USA in an exhibition game over the weekend. Arenas slammed the USA for losing to a team like South Sudan, before making a whole bunch of racist references to African society.

"The males almost lost to some Africans. We almost lost and the King had to save us. I know the LeBron haters are mad. We almost lost to the 'Ahi Ahi' tribe, this is crazy."

Arenas then referred to Joel Embiid , who was born in Cameroon, as a cousin of the South Sudanese basketball team before making more generic racist remarks against that national team.

"Man, Embiid over there goddamn throwing the game because he's throwing the game for his cousins and shit. We're not supposed to be losing to them. Come on man! Cool runnings? We're not supposed to lose to some Cool Runnings team. They don't even have shoes! They get shoes from America, we have to ship them shoes."

Arenas didn't stop, spewing more xenophobic drivel against African hoopers.

"We're losing to people who are shooting on peach baskets, in dirt, no shoes."

It's no secret that countries like South Sudan aren't as affluent as America and have to overcome a lot more to compete on such international stages. Arenas was trying to criticize Team USA for losing to a country that wasn't even formed till 10 years ago but did so by spewing insensitive racial drivel instead of just pointing out the basketball reasons behind the loss.

Luol Deng worked tirelessly to make South Sudan a competitive international basketball program, with the 2024 Olympics a testament to his achievements. Unfortunately, they have to put up with people like Arenas who have no respect for their achievements as basketball players.

Team USA deserved criticism for needing to be bailed out by LeBron James on the final possession of the game after trailing for most of the contest, but Arenas tried to insult South Sudan to show how bad USA's loss was. This is a horrible strategy and led to no meaningful analysis, just a bunch of insensitive jokes dismissing the achievements of the South Sudan basketball program and its players.
