OLTH have been building a reputation as one of NYC’s best newer screamo bands, thanks in part to their wild live show (I caught them with Liturgy at TV Eye last year and it was batshit), and their recordings are just getting better and better too. They’re following their 2023 debut LP every day is sOmeOne’s speciaL day with a new two-song single, “fire dOve / xO,” and these are two of their strongest, most musically-varied songs yet. They’ve got their harsh, screeching, caustic screamo down pat, and they also branch off into heavy/beautiful post-metal territory on the climactic “fire dOve” and tread some Slint-like waters on “xO.”

Envy have announced their eighth album, Eunoia, due October 11 via Temporary Residence Ltd (pre-order). It comes over 30 years into the band’s career, and first single “Beyond the Raindrops” finds the band navigating much different territory than the screamo that they’re best known for. It’s a dreamy, shoegazy song with no screaming at all, and it should come as no surprise that Envy are well-equipped to pull this kind of thing off. They’ve had melodic moments in the past, and “Beyond the Raindrops” is just as intense and moving as the band’s screamier songs.

Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi has announced a new album ‘First Light’, alongside two new singles ‘Flicker’ and ‘Cherry Blossom’. Check them out below. Revealed today (July 19), ‘First Light’ will be Jónsi’s fourth studio album, following the Icelandic musician’s ‘Obsidian‘, which came in October 2021. It’s set for release August 30 via health and wellbeing music provider Myndstream in collaboration with Lakeshore Records and is available for pre-order here.
