Three injured in Town of Wheatland head-on crash

DE SOTO, Wis. (WKBT) -- Three people were injured in a head-on crash in the Town of Wheatland Friday.

In a release Monday, Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson says two cars collided on South Worman Road just south of State Highway 82 around 5:00 p.m.

60-year-old Jeffrey Thompson was headed south and driving to the left of center when he hit an oncoming car driven by 37-year-old Kyle Strand of rural Viroqua. Strand had a 3-year-old girl in his car.

Airbags deployed in both vehicles, and all involved were wearing seatbelts, Torgerson said.

Thompson was taken to Gundersen in La Crosse with unspecified injuries. Both Strand and his 3-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries.

The 3-year-old had proper child restraints, and the sheriff stressed the importance properly sized, fitted and installed child restraints play in collisions like this.

"The child, who is within two months of her fourth birthday, remains weary of travel by car; however, enjoys telling everyone she sees about the crash," Torgerson said. "I commend this family and all families who understand the significance of child safety restraints."

Thompson was delivering packages at the time of the crash. Use of South Worman Road was due to a road construction detour on State Highway 82 , Torgerson said.
