Xander Schauffele does not agree with what Justin Rose's caddie said after The Open

Xander Schaufflele has humbly brushed off Justin Rose's caddie's high praise of his golfing prowess.

The 30-year-old golfer clinched his second major title on Sunday with a victory at the Open Championship at Royal Troon , adding to his earlier PGA Championship win this year. This triumph propelled him to the second spot in the world rankings, surpassing Rory McIlroy.

Schaufflele's consistent performances on the PGA Tour over recent years and his growing list of titles have earned him accolades, including from Mark Fulcher, who has been caddying for Rose for over two decades. Fulcher lauded Schaufflele after his nine-under-par victory, saying: "He's clearly one of the best golfers of his generation".

He added: "It's taken a little bit of time for him to cross that finish line. He's actually quite nice, too. You'd almost like him to be a bit of a w****r. But he really couldn't be nicer. He's a lovely fellow. It's just nice to know that he's top class."

However, when asked if he agrees with Fulcher's assessment of him as one of the best players of his generation, Schaufflele modestly deflected the question. He responded: "Pretty much that's you guys' job to speculate on those things.

"I'm just trying to win as many of these things as I can and play the best golf as I can and be a decent guy. So I'll let you ponder that one."

Schauffele stormed to victory in The 152nd Open with an amazing final round of 65, hailing it as the best performance of his career. The win cements his place as a golfing great, having previously come close but failing to win a major with 12 top-10 finishes.

"Winning the first one helped me a lot today on the back nine," he revealed. "I had some feeling of calmness come through and that was very helpful on what has been one of the hardest back nines I've ever played in a tournament.

"It's a dream come true to win two majors in one year. It took me forever just to win one, so to have two now is something else. There's super stressful moments when you're trying to win a major championship. I felt them in the past, the ones I didn't win, and I let them get to me."

Now with two Majors under his belt, Schauffele is aiming to achieve a career Grand Slam after he became the first player since Jordan Spieth in 2015 to bag his first two major wins in the same season.

His win also helped American golfers secure victory in all four majors in the same year for the first time since 1982 after Scottie Scheffler's Masters triumph and Bryson DeChambeau's US Open victory.
