Either way, this is hilarious. Over the weekend, the top golfers worldwide competed at the British Open Championship. Xander Schauffele of the United States won the event. He played a stellar round, finishing 9 under on the weekend and taking home a cool $3.1 million. But one moment from the course that cracked people up on social media came from Max Homa. He needed to make a sizeable birdie putt on 18 to make the cut on Friday. https://twitter.com/GolfChannel/status/1814381630171295754 The high-stakes putt on the green led to some questionable and colorful commentary from the California native, or is this viral video just a stellar bad lip-reading stunt? At the conclusion of the tournament, a social media user uploaded a video that appeared to be a hot mic moment, with Homa firing off curse words towards his golf ball to make the cup. As Homa lines up the putt, he is already cursing at the ball to go into the hole so he can continue playing throughout the weekend.
"Please, for one time, can it drop? For f**ks sake, get in there, you little b**ch a**. Let's go, hit the cup, hit it!" The ball goes in, and the crowd goes WILD. "Come on! Let's go! F**k you, I'm playing the weekend b**ch... tits yeah...Holy f**k, I cannot believe that went in." The man behind the camera, capturing the moment, hilariously turns the camera around after Homa stops his commentary and speaks to the phone in shock. "Max, you cannot say that." So, is this real, or is this social media user great at video editing and voiceovers? There are 100% portions of the commentary that line up, but more so the celebratory words versus the curse words, and most of the "hot mic" moment is said when the camera is not on his face. Max Homa saw the video on social media and commented:
"Forgot the mic was on." Is Homa leaning into the joke, or is someone's job on the line for not editing out his commentary from the putt? Clearly, it's a joke, and a good one that garnered over 3 million views on TikTok, but you gotta love Homa getting in on it. Check out some of the hilarious comments left on the video, and if nothing else, this proves that golf needs more NSFW mic'd up moments to grow the game... I'd tune in.
"I would watch so much more golf if they did this every tournament." "The 'Tits yeah' so casually had me." "I'd react the same way on a 6 ft put for bogey." "Who put a mic on me? It sounds familiar." "If Lil Wayne can reply to our President and say 'Muthaf**ka, I'm ill,' I can believe this is real." "Became so many people’s favorite golfer in less than a minute." "Iconic of you. Sounds like my inner monologue."
