The Miami Dolphins are in dire need for pass rushing help, particularly in the early stages of the 2024 season.

Having faced numerous serious injuries to its starters and reserves at the edge rushing position in 2023 unlike pretty much any team has in recent memory, their options entering 2024 are extremely limited, with the return dates for Bradley Chubb, Jaelan Phillips, and Cameron Goode still unknown . Shaq Barrett's sudden retirement was also a significant blow to the unit.

Miami has addressed this by inviting former Dolphin and current free agent Emmanuel Ogbah in for a visit on Monday .  The Dolphins released Ogbah as a cap casualty back in February.

However, according to agent Drew Rosenhaus, the Dolphins have added another name to that list on Monday: Yannick Ngakoue.

Ngakoue is one of the most interesting names of the current crop of free agent pass rushers.  The veteran edge rusher had his best season in 2017 for the Jacksonville Jaguars.  He totaled 12 sacks and a league best 6 forced fumbles as he earned Pro Bowl honors.

He most recently totaled double-digit sacks with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2021 with 10.  He totaled 9.5 in 2022 with the Colts in 15 games and 4 last year in 13 games for the Bears.

Ngakoue has had a bit of a reputation as a player who's not that great against the run.  It's also concerning how teams haven't been willing to sign him for beyond more than one year.

Fortunately, the Dolphins are in a position where they don't need much beyond the first part of this year.  With Chubb, Phillips, and Goode coming back, and with rookies Chop Robinson and perhaps Mohamed Kamara potentially able to contribute quickly , Miami likely just needs capable veterans that can hold down the fort for the first half of the season.

We'll find out soon enough of Ogbah, Ngakoue, or another unnamed option mentioned by Jackson comes on board, as the Dolphins' veterans report for training camp on Wednesday, July 23.
