Domestic incident, shooting led to deadly motorcycle crash, SC deputies say

Deputies said a domestic incident and shooting led to a deadly motorcycle crash on a South Carolina highway. It happened around 6:45 a.m. Monday on Highway 5 near Highway 521.

Lancaster County deputies said someone called 911 to report a domestic situation on Highway 521 near North Corner Road. Someone passing by said they saw a woman in a car shooting at a man who was speeding away on a motorcycle.

The witness said the car, which had two women inside, stayed on the side of the road and motorcycle was speeding on Highway 521.

Deputies said not long after that, they got more calls about a motorcycle colliding with a tractor-trailer. Those calls were in the area of Highway 5 near Highway 521.

The motorcyclist died in the crash, troopers said. The county coroner identified him as 33-year-old Stephen Duran Harmon of York. The truck driver was not hurt.

Highway patrol is investigating the crash.

As for the shooting, Lancaster County deputies began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. They learned Harmon had been at a home on Cedar Circle Road earlier in the day and left the house on his motorcycle. They said he then pulled over on Highway 521 near East North Corner Road.

Two women, 33-year-old Holly Noel Tuttle, of Lancaster, and 30-year-old Tiffany Vinson, also from Lancaster, followed him from the home and pulled over to where he was on Highway 521, investigators said. Deputies said then, “a domestic altercation of some sort took place.”

Tuttle allegedly shot at Harmon multiple times as he sped away on his motorcycle, deputies said.

Deputies learned Tuttle and Vinson lived at a home along Cedar Circle Road. They searched the home, where they found evidence of the shooting as well as 1,501 fentanyl pills, 3.6 grams of marijuana, 8.96 grams of methamphetamine, and various other prescription pills.

Tuttle and Vinson were charged with breach of peace of a high and aggravated nature, discharging a firearm at an occupied vehicle, trafficking fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, and possession with intent to distribute Schedule IV.

“This was a tragic and unnecessary situation,” said Lancaster County Sheriff Barry Faile. “None of this had to occur and unfortunately many innocent people could have been injured. Multiple agencies were able to quickly come together to resolve this incident and locate the involved suspects in a timely manner. We will continue our investigation until we have uncovered all of the facts.”
