BRADENTON, Fla. (WFLA) — More than three million free meals have been provided by the Manatee County Schools Food and Nutrition Services, the school district announced Monday.

Since the program began in 2008, the school district has helped provide meals for kids ages 18 and under during the summer months, helping kids stay fed when they might otherwise rely on school breakfasts and lunches to get enough food.

This summer, the school district said 151,000 meals have been served over 66 locations — averaging 6,000 meals per day — including breakfast, lunch, and snacks five days a week.

A complete list of locations is available at summerbreakspot.org .

The school district said the Summer Food Service Program is part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Child Nutrition Programs. Funding for this program comes from meal reimbursements received from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
