After star second baseman Ozzie Albies went down with a left wrist fracture, there was a lot of uncertainty surrounding the infield. However, ESPN’s Jeff Passan has announced tat the Atlanta Braves are signing MLB journeyman Whit Merrifield.

Merrifield provides a utility outlet. He can play in many different positions, and he is effective in most. He most recently was DFA'd by the Philadelphia Phillies, so he isn't the same player he once was with the Kansas City Royals, but he remains an effective option in the middle of the season to go out and get.

In 156 at-bats this season, Merrifield is batting. 199 with three home runs and 11 RBI. His OPS is.572, and he’s racked up 11 stolen bases.

During his days with the Kansas City Royals , he was one of the better defensive players in baseball and was an extremely underrated hitter. In 2018, he hit.304, while in 2019, he carried that same consistency, hitting.302.
