This is when we really need Mythbusters. The Discovery Channel show ended in 2016, but thankfully we still have Rhys McClenaghan to carry on their important work. As we gear up for the Olympics, which kick off from Paris, France this coming Friday, athletes have been showing off their sleeping situation in Olympic Village, which include these luxurious beds...just kidding, they're cardboard and what looks like basically styrofoam.
The beds, which have been used at Olympic ceremonies in the past, are often referred to as "anti-sex beds" because...well, they're cardboard, and presumably wouldn't stand up to any vigorous lovemaking. But will they really keep athletes from doing the deed between competitions? Well one athlete decided to do some mythbusting on his own to test the capabilities of the anti-sex bed and whether they really crumple under pressure. Irish gymnast Rhys McClenaghan posted a video to Instagram of himself testing the structural integrity of the sleeping arrangements, jumping up and down and doing flips on the cardboard beds - and they appear to be pretty damn sturdy. Seems like unless the Olympians are doing some kinky acrobatic lovemaking, they'll be just fine doing the deed on the beds. I guess that's why they'll be stocking 300,000 condoms for this year's games...
