Kansas officials comment on election impact following cyber outage

KANSAS ( KSNT ) – Working for you, 27 News reached out to state and local election officials to see if the recent Microsoft/Crowdstrike cyber outage impacted advance voting in Kansas.

On July 19, cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike reported a global outage when a faulty update was sent to computers running Microsoft Windows. News outlets in Arizona reported that polling places had to make last-minute decisions after the shutdown impacted devices used to check voters in .

27 News reached out to local election officials to see if the outage had impacted the Sunflower State.

Kansas Secretary of State Director of Communications and Policy Whitney Tempel said voter registration systems are unaffected by the Crowdstrike incident. She said voters can still request advance mail ballot applications on the VoteKansas.gov website.

Election officers in Geary, Cloud, Osage, Morris and Jackson Counties all report the global outage hasn’t impacted their election process.
