Liverpool's Alexis Mac Allister has sent a clear message to Manchester United' s Erik ten Hag about the handling of young star Alejandro Garnacho following their time together with the Argentina squad in the Copa America.

Both Mac Allister and Garnacho made their mark in the tournament, but it was Mac Allister who had the more prominent role, featuring in almost every game while Garnacho had limited playing time, only appearing in the final group match.

Coming off a standout season with United, where Garnacho netted 10 goals and set up five more across 50 appearances, hes tipped to solidify his position on the right wing under Ten Hag in the upcoming campaign. Yet, his compatriot Mac Allister urges for a thoughtful approach from both club and international sides.

Highlighting the talent of Garnacho and fellow Argentine prodigy Valentin Carboni, the Liverpool ace praised their potential and excitedly talked about their future contributions to Argentina. At the same time, he emphasized the need not to overload them with expectations too soon.

After the Copa America triumph, in a conversation with 'AFA Estudio' on YouTube, Mac Allister lauded his teammates. He said: "He hasn't played much, but in training he has shown what he's worth, I think he has earned the respect of the team.

"He and Garnacho are two players who can give a lot to Argentina. They excite us a lot. We have a lot of hope for their future. We can't burden them with too many expectations at the moment, but in the future they will give us a lot."

Garnacho certainly turned heads at United last term, not least with that stunning bicycle kick at Goodison Park. He was just as influential in the return leg against Everton, earning his team two spot-kicks in a 2-0 triumph, which earned him plaudits from Ten Hag.

"He is progressing very well. We're very pleased with this. His contribution today was huge with his runs and dribbles. He's effective for the audience as well. We want to show something - dribbles - well-deserved penalties," lauded the United manager.

"He is a player that needs a challenge and likes one. Our job is to push him to high levels. He has high potential and we have to get the potential out and therefore you have to work day by day.

"It is only about him, if he can keep the focus and if he puts the right effort in, he keeps the focus, sometimes for young players it is difficult. We have their job to do."

However, it hasn't all been plain sailing; Garnacho had to say sorry to Ten Hag after 'liking' tweets slamming the boss's decisions following a match at Bournemouth where the young star was taken off.
