The upcoming adaptation has set Moira Walley-Beckett ( Breaking Bad , Anne with an E ) as showrunner, according to Variety .
Based on Rebecca Yarros’s best-selling Empyrean book series, the story centers on Violet Sorrengail, a 20-year-old cadet doing her best to survive the brutal and elite world of Basgiath War College. Though smaller than everyone and destined for a quiet life among her history books, Violet’s world is upended when her mother, a military general, forces her to join the candidates for the next class of dragon riders — the elites of their kingdom of Navarre.
Iron Flame , the second book in the popular romantasy series, was published in November 2023. The third book, Onxy Storm , is due out on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.

As previously reported , Amazon MGM Studios and Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society acquired the rights to Fourth Wing and its sequels back in October 2023. Yarros serves as a non-writing executive producer on the project, which will stream on Prime Video if picked up.
In addition to writing and producing Breaking Bad , and creating and executive-producing Anne with an E , Walley-Beckett wrote and served as a supervising producer on ABC’s flight attendant drama Pan Am , which starred Christina Ricci and Margot Robbie.
