LB Matthew Judon stirs the pot amidst ongoing contract discussions with New England Patrots

The New England Patriots have made an emphasis on extending their top talent this offseason, but there is still one player that has yet to agree to a deal.

    And that is Matthew Judon.

Entering the final year of his deal, Judon asked the Patriots for a new contract and New England made an offer, but the two sides were not close to agreeing.

And because of this situation, many are wondering if Judon's time in New England could be coming to an end.

So while they still have the linebacker for the 2024 season, a logical move would be to potentially trade him to a team that would be willing to be him the money he wants. And the Patriots could use it to their advantage.

Even the linebacker seems to agree.

One person floated the idea of the Patriots trading Judon and a second round pick to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for WR Brandon Aiyuk and a 5th round pick.

    And Judon retweeted the post.

New England could then extend the wide receiver and the 49ers could do the same with Judon.

The Patriots have been interested in Aiyuk since the offseason began, specifically making an offer prior to the NFL Draft. The 49ers are not interested in trading the star receiver, but he has now officially requested a trade.

And with Judon, he is a clear fan favorite, with many hoping that the team will keep him around so he can retire as a Patriot. However, at the age of 31 (he will be 32 in August), Judon did just suffer a season-ending injury last year. So that brings into question how much longer he will play for.

And based on his skill level along with his production the past couple of years, he is looking for a big contract. That's something the 49ers might be willing to give him, while the Patriots can focus on improving the offense.

Judon is an important part of New England's defense, but last season proved that the team has the skill to win some games without him. And the defense is in a pretty solid place, while the offense is seriously struggling and going through a complete restart. So it would make sense to invest in the offense by bringing in Aiyuk.

Plus, bringing him in this early will allow his connection with Drake Maye to start to grow. And by the 2025 season, they could be unstoppable.

The trade would sting a bit for Patriots fans, but it might be the best way to help the team get back to the top.
