    Need gambling help? Michigan Lottery has new helpline

    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Michigan Lottery is shifting to a new gambling helpline.

    While its old helpline will remain in operation, its transition to the 24/7 National Problem Gambling Helpline, 1.800.GAMBLER, it said in a release. That helpline is operated by the National Council on Problem Gambling. Calls made in Michigan will be sent to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

    People in need of help can also text 800GAM or go to 1800gamblerchat.org .

    “The Lottery is committed to providing Michiganders with easy access to resources that support responsible gaming,” Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli said in the release. “By transitioning to 1-800-GAMBLER, we are able to ensure that Michigan residents can reach specially trained staff who can provide confidential professional support, local referrals, and resources to those who may have a gambling problem.”

    The Michigan Lottery also has safeguards and tools online like self-exclusion periods, cool-off periods and daily loss limits.
