Olympic athletes all given same special phone when they arrive in Paris

Olympic athletes will all receive a Galaxy Z Flip6 phone as part of the Games partner Samsung’s $26 million push for promotion in Paris.

Samsung is the worldwide Olympic and Paralympic partner of Paris 2024. The Japanese tech company revealed the Galaxy Z Flip6 smartphone will be given to every athlete competing in Paris this summer.

Olympians will be given a specially-designed version of the phone, which will feature the Olympic Rings and Paralympic Agitos, as well as an associated Olympic case. The exclusive product will be available for use on the podium to further promote the phone, as selfies on the podium will rock social media during the Games.

“Samsung has pushed the boundaries of mobile technology in support of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and its athletes for nearly three decades,” Samsung EVP and head of marketing of mobile experience business Stephanie Choi said. “We are honored to deliver our newest Galaxy innovation to the inspiring athletes of Paris 2024 - and allow them to experience the powerful and intelligent Galaxy Z Flip6 firsthand, even before its official market launch.

“We are excited to see how our technology opens up athletes' Games-time experience like never before - from creating meaningful connections, to sharing and capturing lifelong memories while in Paris and beyond.”

Each Olympic edition Samsung phone comes with an eSIM on the Orange network with 100GB of 5G data, so the athletes are connected immediately after settling in . Also, the devices will be pre-loaded with the IOC's Athlete 365 app, Olympic Shop, and Paris 2024.

The Samsung Wallet app will be pre-loaded with an in-app pass to allow for free drinks at vending machines around the Olympic and Paralympic Villages . The phones are also AI-enabled, following the launch of Samsung’s first on-device AI experience earlier this year with Galaxy AI.

This allows for athletes to enjoy live translation of calls and the interpretation of in-person translations of live conversations. AI Composer will help athletes compose emails, text messages, and social media posts.

With 10,500 Olympic and 4350 Paralympic Athletes competing in Paris this summer, this remarkable commitment from Samsung is valued at over $26 million. As a result, the victory ceremony and gold medal presentations will never be the same with traditions set to be altered ahead of the arrival of Olympic selfies.
