Letcher County waterline project receives funding from Appalachian Regional Commission

More than one million dollars from the Appalachian Regional Commission will help extend a waterline in Letcher County.

It will improve service in Loggy Hollow, close to the city of Whitesburg. It will service ten homes that had no other access to water. Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman announced the funding last Friday.

“They were in a position where they didn't have much other chance of getting that little, small area funded,” Letcher County Water District General Manager Mark Lewis said.

Lewis says it’s part of an effort to help a number of unserviced areas.

“We have a lot of areas in Letcher County that’s not been serviced yet,” Lewis said. “We've got a bunch of pending applications.”

Those applications include projects near Millstone and Turkey Creek.
