New York Giants reportedly showing interest in an upgrade for one of the worst parts of their roster for 2024 season

The offseason is remapping up around the NFL. Some teams have reported for training camp and detailed practice is just arounds the corner. Then, the preseason will be on the horizon. For the New York Giants, they are considering adding veteran talent to their offensive line, a clear weakness in 2023.

Giants visited with offensive guard Greg Van Roten on Monday

Van Roten is 34 years old. The veteran lineman spent last year with the Raiders — where he was coached by now-Giants offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo. That's a major connection.

He started all 17 games for Las Vegas and played 98 percent of the team’s offensive snaps in 2023. He was available and consistent. The Giants could use more of both of those traits along their 2024 offensive line.

Van Roten has spent time with the Packers, Seahawks, Jaguars, Panthers, Jets, and Bills in the NFL. He's been quite a journeyman OL during his career. He also played for the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts.

Van Roten is a potential upgrade to the Giants OL

He was one of the top pass-blocking guards in the AFC last year. He limited sacks and pressure. Meanwhile, the Giants were one of the worst pass blocking units in the NFC in 2023.

We will see if the two sides can work out a deal, but don't be surprised if he joins as training camp begins and battles for a starting interior spot.

Veterans Jon Runyan and Jermaine Eluemunor were added this offseason by New York. Neither has assuredly locked in a spot on the starting unit yet, so there will be plenty of during camp and the preseason.

The Giants should attempt to sign Van Roten for depth, at the very least, ahead of 2024.
