    Updated - on July 23, 2024, at 11:20 AM.

EAGAN, MINNESOTA - According to the criminal complaint from the Dakota County Attorney’s Office, on the evening of July 21, 2024, the Eagan Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance call at the Hilton Garden Inn, located at 1975 Rahncliff Court. The incident, reported at 9:59 p.m., involved Jacob William Charles Polston, who was seen leaving the area in a red Jeep Renegade as officers arrived on the scene.

According to the criminal complaint from the Dakota County Attorney's Office, the incident escalated when officers arrived and observed the suspect vehicle driving erratically. Polston, described as a bald, white male, attempted to evade the officers by driving over a small hill and sidewalk and back onto the street. Despite the officers' emergency lights and sirens, Polston continued to flee, running a red light and nearly causing a collision with another vehicle.

The pursuit continued through multiple business parking lots until officers successfully executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver, bringing the vehicle to a stop approximately three minutes after the chase began. Polston initially refused to exit the vehicle and comply with officers' commands. Officers had to deploy less-lethal ammunition before Polston exited the vehicle, at which point he was arrested. A pocketknife was found on the ground where Polston exited the vehicle.

Polston's fiancé, who was with him during the incident, informed officers that she had come to Minnesota from Massachusetts, where Polston previously resided. She recounted that they had left a restaurant earlier after Polston yelled at staff and described his behavior and driving as erratic. She denied any physical assault had occurred.

While it was previously reported that Polston would be facing multiple felony charges, this latest criminal complaint shows that he is only being charged with felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle. This charge carries a maximum sentence of three years and one day in prison and/or a fine between $1,500 and $5,000. Court records show his bail was set at $40,000 without conditions and $30,000 with conditions.
