TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The central character in a Better Call Behnken investigation into a multi-county check cooking scheme was arrested over the weekend. It is her second, similar arrest.

Keelee Jayden Watkins was charged with additional felonies related to a stolen, altered check.

Janice Taylor of Tampa is the victim listed in public records. She called Better Call Behnken for help — saying her check to a Pinch A Penny was stolen, altered and cashed.

A “9” was added to the amount, and the check was cashed in the name Watkins’ name. The Pinellas Park Police Department said they have Watkins on surveillance video cashing the check.

“It feels like you’ve been violated,” Taylor said. “I don’t want to be too dramatic about that but it’s like wow what happened. I did have to stare at it quite a while to realize I’ve been robbed.”

Watkins was charged with three felony counts in connection with Taylor’s check. Charges include uttering forged bills, grand theft and criminal use of an ID.

Our Better Call Behnken investigation into two Pinch A Penny stolen checks led to the discovery that the Largo Police Department seized Watkins car in January, which was packed with hundreds of personal documents belonging to individuals and businesses, check paper, a printer, a metal grinder, IDs, bank cards, and checks.

A spokesperson for the Largo Police Department said that since the Better Call Behnken reports, the state attorney’s office asked them to hold all of the evidence found in that car.

In April, Watkins was arrested on similar charges involving another woman’s check. Court records show she pleaded not guilty in that case.
