Love Island USA's Bergie admits he would have made controversial move if he won last year

The winning couple of Love Island USA is given a prize of $100,000 - but there's a catch.

DUring the finale of season six, Serena and Kordell won the show and each picked an envelope. In one envelope was the prize money, and in the other was nothing.

Kordell got the money and chose to split it with Serena, but he could have chosen to keep the money to himself. While it seems like a selfish decision to keep the money, Carsten "Bergie" Bergersen who was on season five of Love Island , had his reasons that if he won he would have taken the money.

Bergie spoke to a reporter for The Mirror during an Instagram Live where he said: “I’m going to be completely honest that I would have taken the money if I won last year. I know that sounds crazy but that was where my head was at at the end of Love Island."

He elaborated: "Last year I was so done with everybody. And I was just like, ‘I’ve been screwed over one too many times and if I win tonight I’m taking all the money.'” Bergie had a hard time finding a love interest, most of the girls only saw him as a friend.

Bergie eventually met Taylor, and the two coupled up. They're still together, something that Bergie believed wouldn't have happened if he won and took the money.

“Taylor would have not been okay with that," he said, "But I’m like, now I would have split it 100%."

He explained: "But where my headspace was like, I’ve known this girl for 13 days at this point. Like yes, I feel something like potentially growing and like I have feelings for this girl, but at this point I don’t even know if I can trust anybody because I’ve been played so many times in there.

Bergie did admit that he was glad he didn't win the money and make that choice. "Because I still have Taylor," he said, "I’m very glad I didn't win for that very reason."
