    8th Strongest Earthquake in Texas’ History Shakes Lubbock

    LUBBOCK, TX (KLBK) – KLBK Chief Meteorologist Jacob Riley has details on an earthquake that shook West Texas Monday night.

    At approximately 10:39 PM CDT Monday, July 22, 2024, an earthquake occurred between Snyder and Roby Texas, just north of Highway 180 at 10:38 PM CDT. At 10:46 PM CDT, an aftershock with a magnitude of 4.4 struck in roughly the same location. The magnitude 4.9 is tied for the 8th strongest to impact Texas in recorded history, tied with the magnitude 4.9 earthquake that hit near Loving, NM that occurred on July 21, 2022, nearly 2 years ago to the date.
