Diana Taurasi Names One Young Star She'd Team Up With

Phoenix Mercury star Diana Taurasi has long been one of the faces of the WNBA and despite getting up there in age, she still is one of the league's best players.

At 42 years old, Taurasi is averaging 16 points and nearly five rebounds per game and also made what was her 11th All-Star game of her career. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2004 has had quite a decorated career, winning three titles, making 14 All-WNBA teams, and has also won five gold medals at the Olympics with a chance to make it six in the coming weeks.

Before she and Team USA headed to Paris for the games, they had an exhibition match against the WNBA All-Stars, led by rookie Caitlin Clark among many other elite players. While she and Clark have been pitted against one another as rivals due to her comments earlier this year, there was no clear beef between the two. As for Taurasi and how she views the younger generation, there is clearly one player at the college level who has caught her eye.

In an orange carpet interview with The Players' Tribune, some of the WNBA's biggest stars like Taurasi, Clark, Jewell Llyod, and Breanna Stewart were all asked which college star they'd want on their pickup team. For the most part, the stars of the WNBA picked JuJu Watkins from USC or Paige Bueckers from UConn.

For Taurasi, she tabbed Watkins saying "I'mma go JuJu (Watkins). I'll take JuJu."

While we may not get a chance to see them play in the league together considering Watkins isn't draft-eligible until 2027, they would certainly be a tough duo to stop on defense. Taurasi led the WNBA in scoring five times during her career, and as a freshman, Watkins trailed only Clark in scoring.
