LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Chinatown has continued to boom over the years and with the amount of tourists and locals who visit daily, it’s time for an upgrade.

Parking, public safety, and traffic problems are the top three concerns of Chinatown business owners and customers. Clark County is now in phase one of its 18-month project to improve the Spring Mountain corridor from 1-15 to Rainbow.

Hang Wong, owner of Urban Matcha knows what he would like to see improved moving forward.

“Our parking lot is always full; Especially after 6 p.m. It’s hard to find parking,” Wong shared.

He also says he would like to see a parking garage and perhaps a shuttle that would pick up tourists from the Strip to cut down on the traffic and amount of cars in Chinatown.

While the need for more parking is evident, Maya Kwong who owns several restaurants in Chinatown wants to see smoother roadways.

“I’ve noticed there are some potholes driving down the Spring Mountain area and that’s a major safety concern so if we can repave the street that would be helpful,” she added.

Regarding security, Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones says that’s already a main component that’s been put in place.

“When it comes to working with Metro, they are already assigned a team to the Spring Mountain corridor and are working with business owners to educate patrons to not leave valuables in their vehicles to prevent car break-ins. We are also making sure security cameras go up,” Jones shared.

The county plans to add a crosswalk between Shanghai Plaza and Chinatown Plaza to prevent jaywalking.
