ID’s American Monster recently looked into the case of Ann Metz and her now-deceased killer and husband, Marshall Metz. The episode “I Love My Wife” premiered on the network on June 30, 2024.
The episode’s synopsis reads, “Ann Metz lives for her family, particularly her two beautiful granddaughters; her husband Marshall despises Ann’s giving her time to anyone but him, and he will go to desperate measures to keep hold of her.”
Ann Metz’s killer: Where is Marshall Metz now?
Herald Mail Media reported that convicted killer Marshall Metz died while in prison. Marshall had served only five years of a life sentence when he died because of his failing health in 2016. He was in a state prison in Maryland for murdering Ann Metz and was 71 at the time of his death.
According to The Frederick News-Post, Ann Metz’s killer, Marshall Metz, had received a life sentence for fatally shooting her. Additionally, he received a 20-year term for using a handgun in a crime of violence in the 2009 incident. Ann died of fatal gunshot wounds on September 29 that year. After being married for almost 40 years, she and Marshall had been separated for a month at the time.
The couple was reportedly arguing over family issues and finances when a struggle between them turned violent. Marshall Metz claimed Ann took one of his .22 caliber handguns. He alleged that the weapon went off when he tried to take it away from her. Despite being shot, the latter picked up another rifle, which again went off, and a second bullet struck her.
Ann Metz’s killer waited an hour before calling for assistance and even covered her with a blanket as she lay wounded on the kitchen floor. First responders found her barely clinging to life when they arrived at the crime scene. Later, doctors pronounced her dead at the hospital. Authorities soon arrested and charged Marshall with murder.
The subsequent trial resulted in the now-deceased Marshall Metz’s first-degree murder conviction and a life sentence. During the trial, Marshall had claimed that it was Ann’s fault that she died as they struggled over the guns that day. However, testimony proved that he was against their separation. Ann’s son further accused him of making “no effort to help her” as she lay dying.
