    Who are new Spartanburg County Schools principals for 2024-25 school year? What to know

    The first day of school for Spartanburg County Schools is Monday, Aug. 12.

    Kindergarten, first grade, and students who are new to the school districts should make sure they are registered before the date.

    Parents who are interested in learning about Spartanburg's principals for the 2024-25 year will want to take a look at our roundup.

    Here's what to know before the new school year starts.

    Boiling Springs Elementary: Caleb Ruppe

    Caleb Ruppe previously served as assistant principal at Lyman Elementary School. He also served as a music teacher from 2016-2021 in several District 2 elementary schools. He holds a bachelor's degree from North Carolina Greenville University, a master's degree in educational administration from the University of South Carolina, and a doctoral degree in educational leadership from Liberty University.

    Carlisle-Foster Grove Elementary School: Norman Mayfield

    Norman Mayfield holds a bachelor's degree in early childhood education from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Education in administration and supervision degree from Converse University. She served as an assistant principal at Carlisle-Foster's Grove from 2017-2012. She then joined the District Administrative Team as the coordinator of staff development, math, and science. She has also served as a teacher and instructional coach in District 2.

    Chesnee Elementary School: Emily Wilkins

    Emily Wilkins holds a bachelor's degree from Lander University, a Master of Education in administration and supervision from Southern Wesleyan University, and a doctorate of education from Gardner-Webb University. She has served in a number of roles throughout her career in District 2. At Chesnee Elementary School, she worked as a special education teacher. She was also the school's assistant principal and held the position of district special education instructional coach.

    Broome High School: Josh Fowler

    Josh Fowler holds a bachelor’s in secondary social studies, a master’s in technology in education, and an educational specialist degree in educational leadership. He began his educational career in Spartanburg School District One in 2007 as a social studies teacher teaching AP Economics. He also served as a coach at Chapman High School. In 2010, Fowler joined the staff at Landrum High School and was selected Spartanburg One District Teacher of the Year in 2017. In 2018, he began his administrative career as an assistant principal at Landrum High School where he currently serves.

    Daniel Morgan Technology Center: Nikki Honeycutt

    Nikki Honeycutt has over 25 years of experience in the education sector. Her extensive background includes working as a teacher and mentor. She has also served as an assistant principal for 10 years at both the middle and high school levels. Most recently, she was recognized as the Palmetto State Literacy Association's Distinguished Teacher of Literacy for Spartanburg County. She also has certification as an AP teacher and with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

    Pacolet Elementary School: Cathy Garner

    Cathy Garner has served as principal at Carlisle-Foster’s Grove Elementary for the past 14 years. In her career, she has worked in various roles including teacher, assistant principal, and principal. She holds a bachelor’s degree in special and elementary education from Winthrop University and a master’s degree in administration/supervision from Converse University.

    Drayton Mills Elementary School: Carla Cato

    For the last five years, Carla Cato has served as assistant principal at Drayton Hills Elementary School. Prior to this role, she was a school counselor for 16 years, serving at Chapman Elementary and Whitlock Junior High in District 7 as well as at Sunset Park Elementary in Rock Hill District 3 and Hunter Street Elementary in York School District 1. She is also a two-time Teacher of the Year for Spartanburg School District 7 and Rock Hill School District 3. She holds National Board Certification in school counseling/early childhood through young adulthood and has Gifted and Talented endorsement from Converse College. Her educational background includes an undergraduate degree in education from South Carolina State University, a Master of Education in counseling and development from Winthrop University, and a Master of Education in educational leadership from South Carolina State University.
