Tom Brady was left feeling remorseful after the airing of the live Netflix special hosted by comedian Kevin Hart.

Hart, who is also a father, empathized with the retired NFL quarterback, Tom Brady. During the three-hour-long roast on the live Netflix special, the jokes touched on sensitive subjects for Brady, such as his divorce from Gisele Bündchen, the Deflategate scandal, and his relationship with former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.

“When he says he regretted doing it, I don’t think he’s referring to the it,” Hart said while speaking to Taylor Rooks from Bleacher Report. “I think what he’s referring to is saying, ‘I could’ve tapered it a little differently, saying or having a conversation pre of like, ‘Guys, let’s go and do this, but let’s not touch this or this.’ The idea of going all in and saying, ‘(Expletive) it, I don’t care cause I know the world would love to see me on the receiving end of (expletive) because I’m Tom Brady and I’ve been at the highest stage all my life.’”

While Brady was not the sole target of the roasts that evening, the public airing of deeply personal jokes in front of a wide audience made him reconsider the nature of such entertainment.

The jokes directed at the future Hall of Famer during the roast seemed to have no boundaries, with Brady intervening only once when a joke about Robert Kraft was made by Jeff Ross. This prompted Brady to approach the comedian and ask that the joke not be repeated.

“I can side with Tom and see where he’s coming from and just him wanting to protect the idea of family and the conversation attached to that,” Hart added, per Bleacher Report. “… I’m not privy to whatever he dealt with after. So I know his response and saying something about it was a result to possibly that. But that thing made people comfortable with the concept of a joke being a joke. It’s a joke.”
