INDIANAPOLIS — Officials with the Indiana Department of Transportation recently provided an update surrounding work on the Spring Mill Rd. bridge over I-465 after a semi-truck collided with the bridge earlier this month.

According to a post on social media from the Indiana Department of Transportation: East Central, officials said maintenance crews were able to set barrier walls on the bridge to allow southbound traffic to cross. Message boards were added at each end to prevent northbound traffic from entering the bridge.

This comes after an over-sized load collided with the bridge on July 18, causing a fuel spill on the westbound side of I-465. According to previous reports , the beams of the bridge were inspected and INDOT decided to keep the bridge closed at the time.

INDOT said in the post that bridge inspectors checked the bridge this weekend and are working on a timeline to fix the beams.

“For now, the southbound traffic can safely cross the bridge! We’ll keep you updated on future progress,” the post read.

There is no indication on how long these repairs will last. This story will be updated as they are provided by INDOT.
