The most important thing from 2024 Dallas Cowboys training camp will be...

When you've got close to 90 players on an NFL roster, there's so many things to keep tabs on once training camp kicks off. Out of every storyline around the 2024 Dallas Cowboys though, what will be the most important thing happening in Oxnard, California when the team reports this Wednesday?
The way I see it, the answer is clear: Tyler Guyton's development.
Guyton, who was picked 29th overall in this year's NFL Draft, is expected to start at left tackle Week 1 for the Cowboys. The only problem is that even though he counts with so much upside due to his athleticism , there are serious questions about how game-ready he is.
Back when he was drafted in April, Guyton was always perceived as a mid/late first-round talent that could use some time before being thrown out to the wolves. His hand accuracy, bend, and lack of translatable reps had many analysts preaching patience in any discussion around the former Oklahoma player.
The thing is the Cowboys don't have the benefit of waiting having allowed Tyron Smith to walk in free agency, thus creating a sense of urgency at left tackle. That's even more the case when the offensive identity will likely revolve once again around second-team All-Pro quarterback Dak Prescott and first-team All-Pro wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.
With a weakened running back room and question marks across the offensive line, there's no denying passing the football should be what Mike McCarthy leans on when the season starts. In 2023, an emphasis on running the football and getting the ball out quick for short passes was abandoned halfway through the season and that was when we saw the best football from the Cowboys.
The biggest obstacle to the Cowboys passing offense remaining one of the best in the league in 2024 is undoubtedly the left tackle spot though. If Guyton starts right away, he'll face a gauntlet of top-tier pass rushers starting with Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett in Week 1.
That's a potentially game-breaking matchup if it goes south.
It might not be fair to Guyton to expect him to be Pro Bowl caliber right away but as long as he gives the Cowboys average play to start things off at left tackle, this offense could move the ball efficiently, as Dak has proven he can deal with unideal situations on the offensive line.
There's no player whose development in Oxnard is more important than Guyton's ahead of the 2024 NFL season.
