BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Broome County is making an additional investment in mental health services in the community.

At its meeting last week, the county legislature approved appointing a separate Mental Health Commissioner for the first time in over 20 years.

For the past two decades, the Department of Social Services Commissioner has also served as the county’s director of mental health services.

County Executive Jason Garnar says having separate commissioners will be a tremendous help in providing more mental health resources.

No announcement yet on who will be tabbed for the position.
