Bridesmaid Dropped From Wedding For Telling Bride That Playing Taylor Swift’s “Lover” During Ceremony Was “Insensitive” To Taylor

Swifties are a different breed. Obviously Taylor Swift has some of the most...passionate fans in music. Yeah, we'll just go with passionate. It even goes so far that her fans even have "Taylor Swift-themed weddings," which in this case apparently caused some drama when one of the bridesmaids got into an argument with the bride over whether a song should be played during the ceremony. Totally normal behavior, but I digress. Anyway, the now-former bridesmaid explained the story on
Reddit , and apparently it all started when the bride wanted to play Swift's song "Lover," from her 2019 album of the same name. I don't think I've ever even listened to the song all the way through, though I know I've heard clips of it on TikTok, but looking at the lyrics, sure, seems like a wedding-ish song to me: "Can I go where you go? Can we always be this close forever and ever? And ah, take me out, and take me home You're my, my, my, my Lover" So what's the issue? Well apparently the Swiftie bridesmaid didn't approve of the song - and the reasoning is pretty batshit insane. Taylor released five playlists on Apple Music earlier this year that "explore the five stages of heartbreak." And "Lover" was featured on the "Denial" playlist, which Taylor explained as:
"This is a list of songs about getting so caught up in the idea of something that you have a hard time seeing the red flags, possibly resulting in moments of denial and maybe a little bit of delusion. Results may vary." Which brings us back to the wedding planning, when the bridesmaid told that bride that because Taylor viewed "Lover" as a "denial" song and not a love song, it would be "disrespectful to Taylor" to play the song at her wedding. Sounds like this bridesmaid has been listening to the "delusional" playlist. Who cares what Taylor thinks about what song a bride plays at her wedding? But anyway, the bridesmaid posted to Reddit asking for advice on how to handle the situation: "During the ceremony she wants to play the song Lover which is one of her favorite songs and I get that but I’m trying to tell her that it would be insensitive to play Lover since Taylor specifically added it to her denial playlist and it would be invalidating that, but she keeps saying it’s her wedding and she can play whatever. We had a fight about this yesterday and we haven’t spoken much since but I love her and I don’t want to miss her wedding. Please share your thoughts ASAP."
My thoughts? My thoughts are that this woman is crazy and has no right to tell somebody what they can and can't play at their wedding because of what an artist who doesn't even know you exist might think about it if she knew (which she never will). But again, those are just my thoughts. Well the saga doesn't end there, because the user posted another post a few days later in a different subreddit yet again asking for advice - after being kicked out of the wedding: "We’ve been friends since grade 8 and have always been like sisters. We were always there for each other and I was beyond ecstatic when she invited me to be her maid of honor, and her wedding was supposed to be tomorrow. We were so excited about planning everything and I was happy for her but we got into an argument a few days ago about a wedding detail and she texted me this morning that I’m no longer wanted at the wedding. She’s not answering her phone and all I’ve been doing today is crying. I just wish I could go back in time and make that stupid argument to never have happened. Please give me advice on what to do I don’t want to miss her wedding and I would do anything to make it up to her."
"Got into an argument about a wedding detail." That's one way to put it... Looks like Taylor Swift just ended another relationship.
