Flags at half-staff in honor of former Kansas Speaker Marvin William Barkis

(KOAM) - Governor Laura Kelly has issued an order for flags to be flown at half-staff on all state buildings, grounds, and facilities in memory of former Kansas Speaker of the House Marvin William Barkis. This decision follows Executive Order #20-30 and is effective immediately until sundown on the day of his interment.

“Speaker Barkis championed legislation throughout his career that propelled our schools forward and supported Kansas families,” Governor Kelly remarked. “His contributions to our state will not be forgotten. My deepest condolences go out to his family and loved ones.”

Officials from the Office of the Governor stated that this flag order will be updated once the date of interment is determined.

Marvin William Barkis is remembered for his significant impact on Kansas politics, particularly in the areas of education and family support. His legislative work has left a lasting legacy on the state.
