Can you bet on the Olympics?

ARKANSAS (KNWA/KFTA) — The Summer Olympics will be in full swing on July 26. In the past four years, 16 states have legalized sports betting, but out of the 38 states that allow sports betting, five will not allow their residents to wager on this year’s Olympics.

What’s the catch?

Limitations such as your age and state can affect whether or not you can bet and what you can bet.

Iowa recently updated its regulations on Olympic sports bets. The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission has banned bets on Olympic events with underage participants or bets involving a country’s total medal count.

There is an age requirement. Three states have an age requirement of 18: Kentucky, Rhode Island and Wyoming. In the 30 other states, the age requirement is 21.

Most states will have licensed sportsbooks where bets can take place online or in person.

What can you bet on?

No Olympic sport is off the table, but finding wagers on breakdancing and trampoline might be harder. A total of 45 sports are competing in the 2024 Summer Olympics.

People can put money on the total gold medal winners, countries over and under medal counts on all sports.

What states can’t participate?

Eight states do not have mobile betting.

Five states won’t have mobile betting: Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Washington, D.C.
