BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Construction crews have been at it for months and are now in the final push to get new schools ready for a new school year.

“We are very proud of ourselves,” said Superintendent Eddie Tyler.

One point of pride is the new Silverhill Elementary School. It is a 27-million-dollar work in progress.

“They are moving so fast it could be around December or January and if it’s that early I have time to move folks as late as Christmas break,” said Tyler, although it is more likely the school will welcome students in the Fall of 2025.

Spanish Fort Elementary School on the other hand will be ready for the opening day of the new school year.

“Teachers are there and will welcome students on the 8th and they will be in the building on August 1,” Tyler said.

The brand new, $100 million Baldwin Prep Academy, a 10th through 12th-grade workforce development high school will also be ready. Tyler says it is a school that will change lives.

“This school is an opportunity for one of our students from anywhere in the county or surrounding counties if they want to apply for a waiver, to come to Baldwin Prep to be a part of something special.”

Over the last decade, Baldwin County has invested $340 million in new buildings, classrooms, and facilities. That investment continues with more projects and more school construction already underway.

In addition, $60 million is being pumped into athletic, band, and fine arts enhancements at all seven high schools. Some projects have already been completed, others like at Robertsdale High School are ongoing.
