Death, taxes, and Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert being one of the most underrated and overlooked players in football.

The NFL released the latest set of 20 players ranked within their annual Top 100 series, which saw Herbert check in at 75. This is a massive tumble down from the previous year, where Herbert was 32nd ahead of players like CeeDee Lamb, Christian McCaffrey, and teammate Khalil Mack.

Plenty disagree with this latest ranking, including the Chargers' own social media team:

Herbert's name should not have appeared so early on these rankings. Despite two personal injuries, losing teammates to injured reserve, and one of the worst head coaches in football, Herbert still managed to be eighth in overall grade, seventh in turnover-worthy play rate, 11th in passer rating, and ninth in dropback EPA for games he started and finished.

Unfortunately, there is a bias against quarterbacks who do not have strong winning records. For many, the Chargers losing to the Detroit Lions overrides Herbert's 323 yards and four touchdowns. He willed the Chargers into overtime against the Las Vegas Raiders in 2021, but a loss seems to cancel out the magic he pulled off on the field. Fans can only hope Jim Harbaugh can bring a tradition of winning back to the Chargers so Herbert's record can properly reflect his performance.
