Leny Yoro has opened up about his decision to sign for Manchester United , revealing that its FA Cup triumph was the deciding factor in his move to Old Trafford.

Despite drawing attention from several top European clubs - including Real Madrid and Liverpool - it was United's success at Wembley that sealed the deal for the center-back. Yoro is now eager to contribute to the Manchester team's winning legacy.

United's poor season was given a lifeline after it clinched the FA Cup, overcoming rival Manchester City in a thrilling final. Erik ten Hag's squad emerged victorious with a 2-1 scoreline, thanks to the goals of Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

This marked United's second domestic trophy in consecutive seasons, following its Carabao Cup victory the previous year. In an interview with MUTV, Yoro revealed: "When I saw the FA Cup win at the end of the season, for me, I really wanted to be with them because to win titles and celebrate with the fans - it's incredible."

The path to FA Cup glory wasn't without its challenges for United. The team narrowly avoided a semifinal disaster against Coventry, letting a 3-0 lead slip and relying on VAR intervention to prevent a defeat in extra-time. United's journey also included a less than convincing win over League Two side Newport County earlier in the tournament.

Despite finishing eighth in the Premier League , United's FA Cup triumph has secured it a spot in next season's Europa League . Yoro is set to strengthen a defense that was stretched thin last season due to injuries within Ten Hag's roster.

The decision for the 18-year-old to make the move to Manchester was influenced by Rio Ferdinand, who personally reached out to him to discuss the merits of the club. "It was like two weeks ago (when I first spoke to Rio)," Yoro explained. "He called me.

"First of all, I was really impressed to speak with him and, yeah, we spoke like 10 minutes about Man Utd, so he helped me a lot to make my choice. It was really an honour to speak with him. He spoke to me about the club, and that this is a historic club with a big story, and if I go there I need to fight for the club, to be ready, because this is the biggest club in the world. For me, it was really good to speak about this."

Liverpool.com says: United's FA Cup win was enough for Ten Hag to keep his job, but we doubt it persuaded Yoro to choose Manchester over Madrid. Other factors are likely to have played a role in the transfer, such as United's desire to sign the player. It's unclear just how concrete Madrid's and Liverpool's interest was in Yoro... and perhaps we'll never discover the full facts.
