COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating after a vacuum truck overturned and seriously injured a person on I-95 over the weekend.

The collision occurred Saturday on I-95 northbound near the 48 mm, just north of the rest area. Officials say a Kenworth vacuum truck suffered a front tire blowout, causing the driver to lose control of the large vehicle.

According to Colleton County Fire-Rescue, the truck left the highway, driving down the right shoulder, but overturned as it began to reenter the roadway.

The truck came to rest on its side, blocking 1 1/2 lanes, the highway was closed down for several hours.

The driver was able to crawl out of the windshield on his own while suffering from multiple non-life threatening injuries, fire department reports.

He was treated by paramedics and transported to a local hospital.

Colleton County Fire-Rescue reported that this collision was one of half a dozen accidents on I-95 in Colleton County over the weekend.
