During the city council meeting that took place on Tuesday, July 16, a proclamation was made to honor four young women from Northeast Texas, whose heroic actions saved a victim of a shark attack.
Katy Monk, Carson Zachry, Conlee Zachry, and Ella Cross were given awards for saving a 16-yearold girl from a shark attack on June 7 at Rosemary Beach, Florida. Two other young ladies, Ali Fair Cheek and Abigail Gutierrez, were also involved, but not present at the meeting.
After the proclamation, the council tackled their agenda as usual. The agenda items that passed are as follows: Amending the 2023-2024 budget to increase the general fund balance Amending the 2023-2024 budget for the Intrafund Grant Fund 473 Pay request from Wicker Construction for work on the Sports Complex Regional Lift Station Pay request #14 from Heritage Construction LLC for work at the Southside Wastewater Treatment Plant Changing Columbus Day for Patriot Day on city observed holidays
