Three additional criminal cases were forwarded to Calvert County Circuit Court on July 15. The indictments were handed down by a grand jury.

Alaina Joann Kleist, 33, of St. Leonard was served a three-count indictment, which charges her with one count of second-degree child abuse — a felony charge — and two counts of second-degree assault. The alleged incident occurred May 27.

According to court documents filed by Deputy Hayden Jones of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, Kleist had allegedly assaulted a 17-year-old female as the result of a verbal argument at a residence.

Kleist is alleged to have struck the teen in her face and grabbed her hair. A 45-year-old man was also assaulted.

Two days after she was arrested, Kleist posted $15,000 bond and was released.

Prosecution of the case is being handled by Rebecca Cordero of the Calvert County State’s Attorney’s Office. Kleist is being represented by Waldorf attorney Michael A. Klopfer.

Travis O’Neil Johnson, 39, of Prince Frederick was arrested June 5 following a lengthy investigation by Calvert sheriff’s office narcotics officers.

A five-count indictment charges Johnson with possession with intent to distribute narcotics, possession with intent to distribute drugs near school property, distribution of narcotics/creating a common nuisance, narcotics possession and drug paraphernalia possession.

Court documents filed by Deputy Branden DeLeon-Suero stated a “confidential informant” provided investigators with information regarding Johnson’s alleged drug distribution activities.

Johnson was arrested at a residence on Dorsey Road in Prince Frederick. The house is located within 1,000 feet of Calvert High and Calvert Middle schools.

A search of the premises yield suspected Dextroamphetamine, nearly 160 grams of suspected cocaine, a digital scale, measuring cups, cash, cellphones, an Anshultz rifle and a shotgun.

Johnson has been held without bond since his arrest, according to court documents. The case will be prosecuted by Lee Ann Bell of the state’s attorney’s office.

Charles Maurice Baker III, 30, of Owings was served a seven-count indictment stemming from a June 8 incident in Lusby.

According to court documents filed by Deputy Ryan Gough of the Calvert sheriff’s office, Baker allegedly broke into a woman’s home in violation of an ex parte order and assaulted her with a knife in the presence of a minor child. Gough stated the woman sustained a knife laceration.

During the incident Baker allegedly destroyed a door frame.

The grand jury indictment charges Baker with home invasion, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, crime of violence with a minor present, violation of a protective order and two counts of malicious destruction of property.

Baker has been held without bond since his arrest. The defendant is being represented by George Dent Lynch III of the public defenders office. Prosecution of Baker's case is being handled by Anthony R. Navalaney of the state’s attorney’s office.

All three cases could go to trial in late November, according to court docket information.
