ESPN's Pat McAfee has announced his intention to return to "College GameDay" for the 2024-25 season.

McAfee originally joined the "College GameDay" crew in Week 2 of 2022 on a multi-year contract after making guest appearances in 2019 and 2020.

While his future with the show was in limbo, McAfee shared his excitement for the upcoming season, announcing the decision on social media.

"It is officially, official... I am returning to College GameDay," McAfee said. "Although, I don't want to make a big deal out of it. I know it is a big -- deal that it's happening... When you get offered the opportunity to join the College GameDay, you can't say no to that. You're talking about one of the greatest shows in the history of television."

McAfee will be joined by Kirk Herbstreit, Rece Davis, Lee Corso, Desmond Howard, and Nick Saban on the "College GameDay" staff.

The Athletic delivered a poll on McAfee, asking fans if the former NFL punter was fit for the job, and 48.9% of people said "they don't like it."

McAfee mentioned that fan reactions played a role in the overall decision, but he believed the opportunity was too good to pass up.

"It was an actual decision that was all based on, not on, my love of college football because, obviously, I fell in love with it over the last few years," he said. "Not because of my love for the people at "College GameDay". I enjoy the -- out of all those people that are part of that entire family, but mostly because, do I want to sign up and hear in my mentions how terrible of a person I am by people that will never understand the type of human I am?"

The crew will kick off the season in Dublin, Ireland, as Florida State faces off against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Aug. 24 for a Week 0 matchup.

"I'm still getting the opportunity to do this, I need to do this," continued McAfee.

McAfee will continue his regular programming of "The Pat McAfee Show", but weekly appearances on "College GameDay" are on the horizon for the talented analyst.
