The New York Giants opened training camp on Wednesday with their first set of practices. There is always excitement when training camp begins, as people are optimistic about the upcoming season.

Alas, the optimism in New York Giants camp lasted only a little while. One of their key offseason acquisitions, offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemenor, already went down with an injury.

Video has surfaced of Eluemenor going down with what looks like an injury to his midsection or ribs. He looks to have been hit by star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, causing the injury.

As shared by ESPN’s Jordan Raanan , Eluemenor was down for an extended period of time. While exiting the field, he was aided by trainers. Examinations continued on the sidelines before he went to the locker room.

There is bad luck, and there is whatever you want to categorize Elumenor going down early in practice as. He has been extremely durable, as this is a tough break.

The last time that Eluemenor missed a game was in 2021. The New York Giants were already dealing with injuries to their offensive line, as Evan Neal started the season on the physically unable-to-perform list.

Neal is penciled in as the starting right tackle, but Eluemenor was pushed outside from guard a the start of camp with him sidelined. That will be an interesting dynamic to keep an eye on, as Elumenor can play virtually anywhere along the line.

An emphasis was placed on the offensive line this offseason. The New York Giants were abysmal in the trenches in 2023 as injuries and poor evaluations doomed this offense from ever having a chance to succeed.

There is hope that will turn around in 2024. Along with Elumenor, the team also signed guard Jon Runyan Jr. in free agency.

A healthy season from star left tackle Andrew Thomas would go a long way to stabilizing the line. Development from Neal and center John Michael-Schmitz is also imperative to this unit climbing the offensive line ranks.
