SPENCER, Iowa (KCAU) — The Clay County Community Foundation (CCCF) has raised more than $300,000 since June 22 for the Disaster Recovery Fund (DRF).

The CCCF Board of Directors voted to transfer $25,000 to the DRF from a CCCF endowment on June 28, according to a press release.

Since June 28, the Clay County Community Foundation has had other donors including Farmer’s Trust and Savings Bank, the Walmart Foundation, CF Industries Foundation, Truist, DMSI, Steve Pearson Foundation, and Steven & Jane Bahls. They also receive more than 180 individual donations outside the northwest region of Iowa.

“The needs are great, and the CCCF is incredibly thankful to those who have stepped forward to help our community find the path forward,” says Terri Batschelet, Executive Director of the Clay County Community Foundation. “As we continue to disburse funds, we are also asking for more donations to ensure Clay County fully recovers from this historic flooding.”

As of July 23, $137,000 has been granted to local nonprofit organizations directly supporting individuals affected by the catastrophic flooding.

The grants support and replenish resources, including housing needs, food, household goods, bedding for children, classroom supplies to replace those lost in the flood, backpacks for school children, flood clean-up at nonprofit buildings, Red Cross individual and family emergency financial assistance, and childcare needs.

“The generosity of those who care about Clay County has been incredibly heartwarming,” says Batschelet. “Combining these heartfelt gifts into one fund ensures CCCF can maximize the donations and funnel them directly into recovery efforts underway across the county.”
