    Skeletal remains identified nearly 40 years after discovery in Jack County

    JACK COUNTY ( KFDX/KJTL ) — Skeletal remains that were discovered in Jack County nearly four decades ago have now been identified.

    According to a press release from Sgt. Juan Gutierrez with the Texas Department of Public Safety, the skeletal remains have been identified as Roberta Mumma, who was 25 years old at the time of her death.

    Sgt. Gutierrez said the remains were discovered in a remote area in Jack County in 1984 and their identity had remained a mystery to law enforcement until now.

    Mumma is the victim of a cold case homicide that occurred near Wizard Wells , a small farming community in Jack County. Sgt. Gutierrez said the exact date of the homicide is unknown.

    According to Sgt. Gutierrez, Mumma was identified by the Jack County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers using advanced forensic techniques and DNA analysis.

    Sgt. Gutierrez said the Jack County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers are actively investigating the cold case and seeking justice for Mumma, whose last known location before the discovery of her remains was in Tennessee.

    “Authorities are urging anyone with information about Roberta Mumma or the circumstances surrounding her death to come forward,” Sgt. Gutierrez said. “The smallest detail could be crucial in solving this case and bringing closure to Roberta Mumma’s loved ones.”

    According to Sgt. Gutierrez, the Jack County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers are committed to pursuing justice for Mumma and ensuring those responsible for her death are held accountable.
