ELK COUNTY (WTAJ) – The annual board of directors meeting for Penn Highlands Elk was met with concerns by the public.

The meeting, which was held on July 24, was open to the public. One of the communities main corners was the decision to stop offering maternity services in the St. Marys location.

“On February 21st, I delivered my son, the reason I bring that up is because that is the same month that Penn Highlands announced the closure of its labor and delivery services,” Mary Eckert said, “Unfortunately my delivery had an emergency that took place so the delivery was more complex then it should’ve been.”

Another concern brought up was the changes happening in the DuBois location and how they are going to handle bringing in more patients from St. Marys.

“My question becomes what additional measures are being taken to recruit staff to enhance health and possibly expand or keep the services we already have,” another community member said.
