    1 killed in crash with CDOT dump truck crash, Highway 50 closed

    OTERO COUNTY, Colo. (KXRM) — The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a deadly crash on Highway 50 that occurred on Wednesday.

    The crash happened east of Rocky Ford, near milepost 370 in Otero County, and involved a Colorado Division of Transportation dump truck, according to troopers.

    According to the patrol, a CDOT worker was taken to the hospital and the driver of the other vehicle involved was pronounced dead at the scene.

    The identities of all those involved have not yet been released, and the victim will be identified by the Otero County Coroner after the next of kin is notified.

    Eastbound Highway 50 is closed with a detour in place and drivers should expect extensive traffic impacts. Eastbound traffic will detour at milepost 370 to Otero County Road 21 and return to the highway after passing the crash scene.

    CSP said there is no estimated time for re-opening the road.
