Jalen Reagor has not had an easy path in the NFL, since coming into the league in 2020.

Drafted in the first round by the Philadelphia Eagles, only to be traded to the Minnesota Vikings prior to the 2022 season and then released after training camp in 2023. But he found his way to New England, and after some time on the Patriots practice squad last season, he made his way onto the active roster. The team re-signed him prior to this season.

With so many wide receivers currently on the roster, there are really no guarantees right now. So Reagor is fighting with everyone for a spot on the roster, and he has to prove himself during training camp.

But he started out on the right foot. The receiver had the catch of the day during the opening training camp practice at Gillette Stadium.

Rookie quarterback Drake Maye showed off his arm during an 11-on-11 period, finding Reagor along the sideline for a deep pass. The receiver had cornerback Azizi Hearn beat, and extended his arm to make the one-handed catch that would have easily resulted in a touchdown during a game.

The play was roughly 40-50 yards.

Following practice, Reagor spoke about what went into that catch.

“It was just a regular routine pass concept,” the receiver said. “Seen the ball and did my best to catch it.”

Fans showed up to training camp, hoping to see the offense take a step forward after the struggles last season. And when this play happened, it resulted in a lot of loud cheers.

    It even impressed his teammates.

“That's what he does,” safety Jabrill Peppers explained. “Every practice since he’s gotten here, and when he gets in the game he makes the most out of his opportunities, so I’m definitely happy for him — but we’ve definitely gotta do something about that.”

During his first season in New England, Reagor had seven receptions for 138 yards, along with one carry for 17 yards.

But his best moment came in Week 17 against the Buffalo Bills when Reagor returned the opening kickoff for a 98-yard touchdown. It was the first kick return touchdown of his career, and the sixth total touchdown he's had since being in the league.

“I’ve grown just in general,” Reagor said. “When I got in the league, I was young. It was kind of overwhelming for me. I’m kind of homing in and things are slowing down for me.

He also admitted that he had suffered an injury while in Minnesota and was not at full speed last year. But heading into this year, he's ready to go.

“I’m actually 100% healthy now," the receiver told reporters. "I’m just taking it day-by-day, doing what I can, embracing my role.”

This was only the first day, so let's see if Reagor has some more highlight catches in his future.
